Roman Centurion

This personal project was done with the intent of strengthening my workflow when creating a character for games. It was also a good opportunity to spend some time studying Roman history, as I wanted to create a piece that would be as accurate as possible.

My inspiration for this project came from my passion for ancient history. Focusing on historical accuracy, I aimed to capture the essence of a Roman centurion from the 1st century.

The modeling was done in Zbrush and Maya.

The proportions of the armor and weapons were created based on historical texts and archaeological images to ensure that the proportions were correct. I focused on getting the details right and also made sure that the design and style of the armor were typical of the 1st century Romans.

Once the model was completed, I moved on to texturing using Substance Painter. I used a range of reference images to ensure the accuracy of the textures, including images of Roman armor and weapons from archaeological sources. I also created custom materials for different parts of the model, such as the leather straps and metal buckles.

The final step of the workflow involved rendering the model in Unreal Engine. For the scenery I used a lot of UE market free assets, to create a forest scene rather quickly.
